Drive to Sasebo and Hirado

Today , I rented a car at Hakata and went on a one-day drive to Nagasaki.

It takes about two hours by car from Hakata to Sasebo.

Sasebo

The hightlight of Sasebo is the view of Kujyukushima Island from Tenkai Peak.

It’s cloudy today , snd I can’t see the islands clearly.

But it’s a fantastic and wonderful view.

Hirado

It takes about an hour by car from Sasebo to Hirado.

Lunch at the Hirado Fisheries Cooperative’s restaurant.

The flatfish sashimi was really good in season now.

A terraced rice field in Kasuga

It takes about 30 minutes by car from Hirao Ohashi to the terraced rice field .

This terraced rice field was opened up by hidden Christians.

Eighty people from 17 households live in this village.

In 2018 , Kasuga village wsa registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site as a Hidden Christian Heritage Site in Nagasaki and Amakusa regions.

Katarina

The history of Kasuga Village is on display at the village base “Katarina” which renovated the vacant house.

Also , elderly residents who are stationed as storytellers greet them with smiles and serve tea and sweets.

The terraced rice paddies you see in this season look like ancient ruins and have a wonderful view.

A view of temples and church

The view of temples and church is a place where you can feel the history of Hirado City.

It is a place that combines the West and East.

From the stone-paved slope you can see the green spire and cross of the Xavier Memorial Church , and the tile roof of Shojuji and Komyoji below.

Sasebo was a superb view of nature , and Hirado was an attractive town where Western and Oriental cultures were combined.
